eating, seating and atmosphere
We serve two menus in Durham, a lunch and early evening menu (until 7pm Sunday to Friday, 6pm Saturday) and an evening menu. Our food is prepared from locally farmed, seasonal produce. Cooked simply and well.
Our Durham Eating House covers both floors of the former headquarters of The Durham Gas Company, which was built in 1881.
There’s a spacious, fully accessible ground floor, with deep red walls, solid wood floors and large windows that let the natural light flood in. This area seats up to 40 people at tables from 1 to 10. We can of course seat a single party of up to 40 if that’s what you need.
Upstairs we have a wonderful, oak paneled boardroom - complete with stained glass windows and 17ft high moulded plaster ceiling features. This seats a further 60 people and is used as part of the restaurant or for smaller private parties, functions and conferences.

parking
There are lots of places to park in Durham but closest to us (and easiest for parking) are Walkergate Car Park and Prince Bishops Shopping Centre. They’re both only a two-minute walk away and are open 24hrs a day, offering ample parking at reasonable rates. Watch the signs in Prince Bishops to tell you which floors to park on for collection after 6pm though.
Alternatively, you can park for free on single yellow lines on Claypath after 6pm and on Sundays.
